What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese technique that helps restore balance in the human body and aid recovery. Acupuncture is based on the concept that illness and pain are caused by an energy imbalance. Energy, which is called Qi (pronounced chee) in the practice of acupuncture, flows along meridian lines in the body and can be disrupted by illness or injury. Through the use of thin, stainless steel, surgical needles, the balance can be restored.

Acupuncture has been proven effective in controlled studies for pain management and a variety of disorders such as arthritis and migraine headaches.

Acupuncture can benefit recovery from accidents, such as motor vehicle accidents, by helping manage pain, tension and stress. It is an excellent complimentary therapy when used with physiotherapy, massage therapy and Western medicine.

Are there any risks to acupuncture?

Acupuncture is safe and effective. Needles are only used once, so there is no risk of infection. The needles are so thin that there is little or no discomfort.

Your practitioner will conduct an assessment to determine the root cause of your pain and determine the best course of treatment based on the diagnosis.
